about

BZ3 Organ Trio showcases three of Minneapolis’ best-of-the-best jazz and soul stalwarts - versatile organist Brian Ziemniak, award-winning guitarist David Feily, and stellar drummer Kevin Washington. A modern take on a classic sound - combining the atmosphere of the organ trio with an updated texture and groove reflecting our times. The band is known for their impassioned live performances, taking listeners on an engaging journey through jazz, funk, soul and r&b styles with an improvisatory edge united by the band’s commitment to a symbiotic whole.

Album opener “Frankenstein” encapsulates the essence of the trio in 4 minutes and 30 seconds - a roaring, high energy romp telling the listener to leave those bygone organ trio expectations behind. Acclaimed vocalist Julius Collins (Greazy Meal) joins the band for a fiery funk performance of “Too High”, while Washington lays a fierce groove and Ziemniak & Feily trade riffs with aplomb. A simmering “Glass Prism” features guests Peter Vircks (Moveable Feast) & Yohannes Tona (Stokley) joining the band to navigate the dynamic changes of this BZ3 original. Jesse Larson (NBC’s The Voice) jumps in for a gospelized take of “Sledgehammer”, and Fred Steele (The Steeles) closes the album with his lush baritone on the jazz standard “For All We Know”.
